It was scheduled tower at the outset to be at a distance of 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) high, but the geology of the region proved to be unsuitable for a tower of that height. Designed and created by architect Adrian Smith, incorporates many features unique structural and aesthetic. Creator and leader of this project is Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the richest Arabs in the Middle East, and the nephew of King Abdullah. Alwaleed is chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), the largest company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is a partner in Jeddah Economic Company (JEC), which was formed in 2009 to develop the Kingdom Tower and the city.
